MAXILLOFACIAL
Oral & Maxillofacial (OMF) Surgeons specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries affecting the mouth, jaws, face and neck.
OMF surgery is unique in that it requires a dual qualification in medicine and dentistry, and therefore is often seen as providing the bridge between medicine and dentistry, treating conditions that require expertise from both backgrounds, such as head and neck cancers, salivary gland diseases, facial disproportion, facial pain, temporomandibular joint disorders, impacted teeth, cysts and tumours of the jaws, in addition to numerous problems affecting the mouth, such as mouth ulcers and infections.
Many Oral & Maxilliofacial surgeons focus on one of these areas to develop a sub-specialist interest within the scope of the wider specialty, whilst some offer a comprehensive service across all areas.
Our Maxilliofacial practice is led by Indran Balasundaram, MBBS BSc (hons) BDS FRCS (OMFS), who specialises in oral surgery and medicine, teeth extraction, surgical dermatology, skin cancer, investigation and treatment of head and neck lumps, facial deformity, disorders of the temperomandibular joint, as well as facial trauma and salivary gland disease.
