Mr Mirnezami is a consultant colorectal surgeon specialising primarily in the management of colorectal cancer and small bowel neuroendocrine tumours (NET). He is currently MDT lead at The Royal Free Hospital for colorectal cancer with a high volume practice dealing with operative management of small bowel NETs. Prior to being appointed as a consultant in 2019, Mr Mirnezami completed advanced colorectal fellowships at St Thomas’ Hospital and University College Hospital as well as at the internationally acclaimed St Mark’s Hospital, where he spent a year as Resident Surgical Officer. This has allowed him to develop expertise in the management of a wide variety of benign and malignant disorders of the bowel. In addition Mr Mirnezami has recently established a growing collaborative practice with gynaecology colleagues to deal with advanced pelvic endometriosis with bowel involvement.

Mr Mirnezami’s general colorectal practice also involves dealing with benign disorders of the small intestine, colon, rectum and anus. Specifically, these include diverticular disease and inflammatory bowel disease as well as benign proctological conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fissure and anal fistula.

Mr Mirnezami is firmly committed to evidence-based practice and high-quality research in healthcare. He has published over 50 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and previously undertook a PhD at Imperial College under the supervision of Lord Ara Darzi. This research was focused on developing a deeper understanding of bowel cancer metabolism. Mr Mirnezami is now the lead investigator on several active research studies evaluating radiation response in rectal cancer and the role of diet in colorectal cancer development and progression.
