RESEARCH
Dr Hicks was awarded a PhD in metabonomics in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in 2018 examining the factors affecting disease phenotype and personalised treatment responses. She has published in gastroenterology and IBD peer reviewed journals and presented her work to National and international IBD scientific communities. She has ongoing interests in the field of IBD and the gut microbiome and genetics.
In her role as a Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London, she supervises several gastroenterology specialist registrars for their MD / PhD work and is an active member of the gastroenterology research group at Imperial. She is a contributor to multiple collaborative UK wide IBD projects resulting in well cited papers including real world experiences and patient outcomes.
She has participated in commercial and investigator-led clinical trials, including ongoing trials into acute severe ulcerative colitis, and new therapies in IBD
She has written a number of book chapters including medical student textbooks and Scientific methodology chapters.
